On the 16th November 2014 I will be presenting my first workshop hosted by Prime Movement and I am very excited!
You can watch my online interview here.
Go here to check out all the photos, you will see some of the partner work we have done in the studio.
Pilates for me is pretty much a way of life, it is something that I do, something that I love and something that I teach. Pilates is not JUST about moving your body, its about connecting the body to the brain and visa versa. Its about moving your body with intent and getting the most out of that movement. Its about trusting the process, trusting your body and trusting yourself. I also believe that it should challenge us. Which is what can be said about life really. Moving through life requires us to trust, have faith and to put one foot in front of the other.
So, for my workshop I am doing all those things by working with partners. Our first thought when reading that sentence is very most likely, oh my word, will I have to touch that person while I am exercising? And yes, you will.
The Partnering workshop breaks down our own boundaries of what is ‘right’ in Pilates and how we execute our movements. When working in partners, trust comes into play, touch is part of the package (though not in any weird way, please don’t get me wrong) and it will very most likely challenge you. Why? Well, working with a partner requires a degree of trust in both your own bodies ability and your partner. Your brain and body are both challenged by your and your partners imperfectness, yes, we are taking perfect right off the agenda here…! You will feel your imbalances by working with another persons imbalances and together you balance each other out. As for the touch side of things, proprioception is always a fantastic tool for the body to figure out where it is in space, normally we would use the wall or a piece of equipment to get that feeling, in this workshop we are using each others bodies. But what is even better about using a body is that it is also moveable so the balance aspect of the brain is being utilised too.
In this workshop I also add in an extra variable! Always challenging those comfort zones, I am;-) And that variable is the large Pilates ball, which adds in an extra dimension and is also a Huge amount of fun! Balance, proprioception, trust, strength, ability and fun fun fun. The only aspect we don’t play around with is safety. Which means we listen to the body. At all times. I am sure you have heard the expression ‘no pain, no gain’? Well, in my world we like a bit of pain – but the good type and we don’t work through the bad pain.
So, who should come to this workshop?
Able bodies who like to play. Able bodies who may be feeling uninspired. Able bodies who fancy a challenge( and no, its not drastically challenging unless you have trust and touch issues and even then, this is safe environment to explore) And Able bodies who fancy doing something a little different.
And now that I have you chomping at the bit to get yourself there, here are all the deets:
